We are campaigning against the proposed M6 widening through Staffordshire and Cheshire between Cannock and Knutsford. GAME has already campaigned successfully against the Government's proposal in July 2004 to build a tolled Expressway parallel to the M6, which was finally rejected in July 2006.February '06
The feasibility study being carried out by the Highways Agency should be finished by the end of June. In July the minister, Stephen Ladyman, should announce which of three options he prefers. These are 'broadly symmetrical widening', 'broadly parallel widening' or the Expressway.
Following his announcement the Highways Agency will do further work on the chosen option and then there will be another public consultation in '07. Following that the government intends to hold a public enquiry. It is intended that either widening or the Expressway will be built by 2017.
